SPF Lipstick, Lip Gloss, Chapstick

Lipstick is the final touch in my makeup routine.
It may be the first and most important in yours. Make you beautiful lips stand out with just a hint of color or sexify them up with a daring purple. A powerful red always makes a statement too.

I like to just wear a hint of color during the day usually. No matter what your preference is, make sure that your lipstick contains SPF. Or you could put on an SPF chap stick and then put your lipstick or lip gloss on over. Remember to reapply throughout the day, but given that many people's lips can get dry, remembering is not a problem.

Many lipsticks and chap sticks do not have good UVA protection yet. I did find one that does contains pretty decent protection. Neutrogena MoistureShine Lipstick:
Active Ingredients: Octinoxate (7.5%), Titanium Dioxide (1.1%)

This lipstick comes in a pretty small silver lipstick tube. I really like how it is silver, it looks like a more expensive lipstick from a department store, but it is from the drugstore! The lipstick is pretty sheer so don't be scared to go for the deep red one. It is pretty moisturizing some Aquaphor or Vaseline may be needed to prep lips underneath. The texture is not sticky at all, it's in between a lip gloss and a lipstick. They run around $7, but look for the buy one get one 50% off coupons. Ulta and CVS has these deals pretty often. Give your lips the beauty and sun protection they need!

Age Better with a Bright Light for Fall Time

Fall time is here! I am getting excited to light my yummy autumn smelling candles and warm up my oils. Do you like to use candles or do you burn scented oils?

I just bought an all black oil warmer the other day at the dollar store believe it or not. I have been looking for a black one for a reasonable price forever. And you can’t beat a dollar, that’s for sure! I do like candles better though, just seeing the flame flicker in the night is so relaxing.

A nice scent throughout your home or bedroom is calming too. Any extra ways to be relax and calm at nighttime before you get your beauty rest can help you to be stress free and therefore help you to age better as well.

May you have a light that shines bright to guide you through this fall. :)

The Anti-Aging Ladies Perfume

The age of innocence with an anti aging ladies perfume. Smells bring back many memories. Smells arouse our senses and can make us feel good. Humans all have their own scent. Our natural scent can attract some people and not attract others.

So how we smell is very important. Perfumes can help us smell good and bring back memories. There is now a new fragrance that well not only help us smell good, but it will help us look younger!

Fragrance Designer Harvey Prince has designed a new fragrance that can make anti-aging claims. Harvey Prince researched a study over 10 years that tested men of different age groups to rate scents by the age of a woman.

Harvey Prince also looked at: "A study conducted in 2000 and published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology showed that women in the 40 plus age group have more than twice the levels of 2-Nonenal – which is associated with a 'grassy, greasy' odour – as well as higher levels of Omega 7 and lipid peroxides." (cosmeticdesign.com)

Harvey Prince needed a fragrance that disguised the scent and also smelled of youth. The anti-aging perfume is called Ageless Fantasy.
"Although the formula of its fragrance is obviously a closely guarded secret, Harvey Prince says it used the research findings to create a scent that best masks odours associated with older age groups with scents that are associated with younger age groups. As a result Ageless Fantasy combines pink grapefruit, pomegranate, jasmine, mango and soft must to create a fragrance that is said to produce a significant ‘age-lowering’ effect when applied to the skin."

Let the scent of youth come back to everybody and may we always be a kid at heart! Age gracefully whether you choose to buy an anti aging ladies perfume or not.

Vaseline Men Lotion

I really like how Vaseline made new lotions for men. The lotion comes in nice manly black bottles. Hopefully, more men will use the lotion because it is black bottles and marketed towards them.

Many men receive skin problems and not moisturizing enough is a large part of what causes the problems. Even if men use harsh cleansers, properly moisturized skin can help fight the harshness. One of the Vaseline Men lotions can be use on the body and the face, which is nice and convenient for men. There is no reason why anybody cannot use their regular body lotion on their face too, it all depends if it is enough moisture for your face and it does not break you out. Body lotions are generally the same as face moisturizers.

I think it is great that more skincare products are marketing towards men. And that more men are not embarrassed to take care of their skin. Why not, we are want to pull off great looking facades for as long as we can. And men, the best anti-aging treatment is Sunscreen. Second best is a retinoid and then antioxidants.

Free Skin Cancer Screening on a Tour Bus!

I went and a got a free cancer skin screening this weekend. It was the Road to Healthy Skin tour bus that came to Rite Aid sponsored by Aveeno. I got my whole family to come with me to get checked out as well. :) They set up a tent and table outside of the bus with an assistant there to hand out forms to sign. I got their early to avoid lines and there were still a couple people before me. The assistant said good thing we got there early because later in the day there are long lines!

When it was time to go inside the bus, there was a little waiting room with three chairs and a desk. I waited there while the first person came out from one of the two screening rooms. That’s right, there were two screening rooms and two doctors to do the screenings. When it was my turn the screening room was just like a small doctors room at a doctors office! The assistant asked me if I wanted a full body screening or a half body. I got the full. And you get to keep on your undergarments and put on one of those paper robe thingy.

Then the doctor came in and he was really nice and seem like a happy person. He examined each limb starting with my arms, legs, back, and stomach. He said you want to look at each mole and make sure they are not a irregular shape and no bigger than a pencil eraser.

I also told him that I was concerned about a mole on my face. See, I have had what I thought was a black head for about two years right in the middle of all my stubborn blackheads, next to my nose. Then I figured out that it must be a really black mole! I never get black moles. That is the main reason why I went on the screening. And the doctor confirmed that it was a mole! He said since it was very small, that there was nothing to be concerned with, just to keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger to see a dermatologist. He recommended getting a skin cancer screening once a year since I have a lot of moles and I am kind of fair skinned.

So it turned out to be a good experience. And I am definitely going to get my yearly screening, especially since May is free skin cancer screening month. So every May will be my skin routine.

They also gave me free samples of the new Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Protections sunscreen SPF55. This sunscreen contains antioxidants and is very similar to the Neutrogena Age Shield SPF55. I tried it today for the first time and unfortunately it balls up a little too, but not as much as the Netrogena, of course this is based on only one day. So I will let you know my full review in the future.

I recommend getting a skin cancer screening on the next bus tour that comes your way. Check the Skin Cancer Foundation website to see when they are coming to you!

Fall and Winter Sunscreen

Fall and winter time is coming soon. Do you continue to use the same sunscreen in the winter as you do in the summer? I know some people like to use a thicker sunscreen because they have dry skin. I continue to use what works for me, because it is hard for me to find a sunscreen that my skin likes.

When Neutrogena put out the new Age Shield Dry Touch SPF 55 and 77, I could not resist trying it though. The other Neutrogena Dry Touch sunscreens did not break me out, so I thought this one would work. And the Age Shields have some antioxidants built right into the sunscreen, which helps fight off free radicals! I heard that the Age Shield one does not ball up, causing white flecks on my skin like the other Dry Touch ones. So I was really excited to try this new sunscreen, but unfortantely this one balls up too! :( I do not even put any type of serums under the sunscreen either.

So maybe I'll try it a few more times or I will either stick to the Neutrogena color boosting sunscreen that I used all summer or go back to the Hawaiian Tropics oil free faces. Hmm...stick to what works.

Velvet Hour Perfume the Scent of Gasoline

Engines pumping, the green light flashes, yearning and turning they burn for the cup…. Smell that? It is the smell of gasoline. Do you like the smell of gasoline? When you pull up to a gas station and pump your tank do you take a big whiff?

Will Kate Moss does. She is making a perfume with the scent of gasoline. I know we are all short on gasoline, but does that mean we want to smell like it? Hmm…maybe since everybody needs more gasoline, we can attract the hot guy really fast. Do you have a need for speed?

Although, I admit it, I like the smell of gasoline too. I think it smells good, but I am not sure I would like to smell like it. I do want to smell the perfume to see how similar the scent is! The new perfume is called Velvet Hour.

Plastic Contains and Harmful BPA Affects on Humans?

Do plastic containers harm humans?

Bisphenol A or BHA is a environmental estrogen that is released in Polycarbonate plastic containers and from can containers of canned foods. BHA can, "...alter the function of the endocrine system by mimicking the role of the body's natural hormones"(medicalnewstoday.com). BHA has shown to have affects on brain and reproductive health in rats, there is little clinical evidence that there are the same affects on humans.

The temperature of the liquid determines how much BHA is released. It does not matter how new or old the plastic container is. If you repeatedly scrub babies bottles with boiling water then BHA can be released 55 times faster than normal use.

"BPA is just one of many estrogen-like chemicals people are exposed to, and scientists are still trying to figure out how these endocrine disruptors - including natural phyto-estrogens from soy which are often considered healthy - collectively impact human health," said Scott Belcher, PhD (medicalnewstoday.com).

BPA has also been linked to diabetes and heart diseases today. The study was released early because of an FDA hearing. BPA is also found primarily through food but also through drinking water, dental sealants, dermal exposure, and household dusts.

"This is the first study of associations with BPA levels in a large population, and it explores "normal" levels of BPA exposure"(ScienceDaily.com).

'"Using data representative of the adult U.S. population, we found that higher urinary concentrations of BPA were associated with an increased prevalence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and liver-enzyme abnormalities. These findings add to the evidence suggesting adverse effects of low-dose BPA in animals. Independent replication and follow-up studies are needed to confirm these findings and to provide evidence on whether the associations are causal," the authors conclude"(ScienceDaily.com).

To be on the safe side:

Do not use plastic containers with the number 7 on the bottom.
Don't microwave polycarbonate plastic containers.
Use baby bottles that are BPA free.
Limit you use of canned foods.
Try to use more glass containers.

Crest Weekly Clean Intensive Cleaning Paste

Have you heard of Crest’s Weekly Clean Intensive Cleaning Paste? I read about it in my September Allure magazine. Apparently P&G owner of Crest is marketing this paste in a new way. Well, not exactly new. By word of mouth. They will not use TV ads for this paste as much as their other products. They advertise in the mag and they are giving it out to bloggers to blog about it! Now, did I recived this paste and I am now blogging about it?
Unfortnately, no, but I am blogging about it anyway and advertising for them, because I love beauty items. And I love capitalism!

This treatment is like a trip to dentist. The Crest Paste has ActivClean crystals and finely ground silica in it that acts like the polish treatment that you receive at the dentist. The crystals can scrub to remove stains from your teeth in between dentist checkups. The gritty crystals are more rough than a regular toothpaste but not as rough as the dentist polish treatment.
This paste does not have fluoride and it is a weekly treatment in addition to your regular toothpaste.

Now I know, who likes going to the dentist, but perhaps this will help you so your next dentist treatment is a little more bearable. Also the last time I went to the dentist, the hygienist told me that stains are like Velcro on your teeth, bacteria attaches like dirty felt. So if this Crest treatment can help a little bit to get rid of the stains, then I am all for it! I can’t wait to try it! I am going to pick some up tomorrow.

I think this weekly clean paste will be an excellent step before your whitening treatment. Prepare your teeth for the white gleaming shine!

Beauty Skincare Drinks

Nestle has come out with a beauty drink to help you look beautiful from within! “The product itself is formulated with vitamins, phtyo-nutrients, botanical and fruit extracts that are combined to fight the signs of aging from the inside"(cosmeticdesign.com).

The drink is called Glowelle and I guess it is suppose to make you skin have that healthy glow. Glowelle will hit Neiman Marcus stores in about 2 weeks. Does it really work? I am not so sure.

Have you heard of Lumae another beauty drink with vitamins and green tea? It was launched in 2008 by L’Oreal and Coca Cola. And then there is the famous Borba. The Beauty Brains say that these drinks are just hype.

I check out Glowelle.com and looked at the ingredients and the scientific research that they listed on their website. First of all their research consists of scientists that talk about the specific vitamins that Glowelle uses not the actual drink and whether or not Glowelle uses enough supplements to have an efficient affect on your skin. Plus these drinks are labeled as a dietary supplement and not as a cosmetic drug under the FDA. Check out the ingredients on their site.

It looks like you could get the same or better benefits from just drinking fresh pomegranate juice. There does not seem to be a reason right now to make a specific drink that is marketed for beauty in the cosmetic aisle.

I do think Nestle had a great idea to put their drink in the cosmetic aisle, because that is where all the beauty junkies shop and they are more likely to try it there, rather than a grocery store aisle. I also like the fact that there are more and more beauty innovations coming out everyday! I am just not so sure the Glowelle drink floats my boat.

Fish OIl Omega-3 and Beauty Within

Fish oil is known to help cardiovascular problems. And Omega-3 helps people with eczema and psoriasis. Omega-3 also benefit’s the memory and could help people from developing Alzheimer’s. Scientists say fish oil is anti-inflammatory and good for acne too.

It seems to me that Omega-3 is known more to protect your overall health, but mostly on the inside. Taking an Omega-3 pill or upping my intake of salmon, halibut, almonds, walnuts, and soy sound like a good idea for my memory.

Make sure your Omega-3 pills have more DHA than EPA. DHA has been proven recently to be better for your memory than EPA. Check for a DHA of at least 220mg. Research is also showing that DHA is better than EPA for cardiovascular as well. Look for Omega-3 pills that say pharmaceutical grade, these are concentrated oils. Omega-3 fish oil pills should be in ester form not triglycride, because ester is more easily absorbed by the body. Make sure your fish oil is molecularly distilled so that all the contaminants are removed.

Also it is recommended right now to NOT take more than 1,000mg of fish oil per day. And do not exceed more than 2g of DHA and EPA per day in supplements or 3g in supplements and food combined.

Creams and Lotions for Cold Days

Cold months are coming upon us. Time to get prepared to protect your skin from the cold air. The change in climate and lack of humidity greatly affects the moisture in your skin at a faster rate. Cold air and all the extra heat in your house can dry your skin. Long hot showers can also make your skin drier. I know it is extremely hard, but try to take short warm showers instead, 15 minutes or less and then wrap yourself in a warm fluffy bath robe.

Use an oil based cream or lotion immediately after getting out of the shower on damp skin. Applying lotion immediately keeps water in the skin and the lotion creates a barrier decreasing dryness and itchiness. Most lotions contain a oily agent, a water agent, or both. Oily based lotions and creams actually protect the skin better in the cold winter months. Oil based lotions allow the skin to re-hydrate by providing an occlusive band-aid like barrier over the dry skin.

Check your creams and lotion to see if they have an oily feel. Mineral oil at the top of the ingredient list can be a good sign too. And if you exercise in the cold outdoors apply moisturizer before you go out and after you take your shower to avoid itchy skin. Also don’t forget to use at least SPF 15 all fall and winter long.

Hair Split Ends Fixes

Split ends happen, it’s a fact of life.

To prevent split ends as much as possible treat your hair gently. Handle your hair like fine silk. Washing your hair is the most damaging so try to only wash every other day or less if you can. Baby powder works wonders.

Try to use a gentle sulfate shampoo or try out co-washing. You can even alternative days, that works great for me.

Put your hair up with cute little hair thingys very often. Start buying some more beautiful hair clips, sticks, barrettes, and scrunggies. Keep your hair off of your back away from rubbing on chairs, getting caught in things, and blowing in the wind. Wearing your hair in a bun is the best to protect the ends, but any up do will do. Make sure you use hair bands that will not snag or pull your hair, because that will defeat the purpose of putting your hair up.

Weekly deep conditioning treatments and coconut oil or olive oil treatments help protect your ends a great deal as well. Applying a light leave in hair conditioner, like Johnsons’s Baby, or even just a drop of oil to the very ends of your hair before you go out into the world and before you go to sleep will help too. If you like silcone based products then use them to protect your ends, but make sure to clarify your hair once a week to get rid of buildup.

Limit blow drying, hot curlers, curling iron, flat irons. Unfortunately heat styling your hair will damage the ends and create split ends. Try to at least let hair air dry on the weekends. And always use a heat protection spray to limit some damage.

Cutting your hair is the only way to truly get rid of split ends. Regular trims will keep your hair in tip top shape. However, if you want your hair to grow long than cutting of the grow will not help your hair to grow. If you handle your hair very gently and skip a few trims and once your hair reaches to the length that you desire, you can them maintain that length with regular trims.

Chinese Recycled Hair Bands Beware

Have you heard that there are hair bands made by China that have recycled condoms inside? I got this email the other day and it is so scary and gross! It is terrible that they are using these recycled condoms, just to make the hair bands cheaper. Do you put your hair band in your mouth while you are tying up your hair? I don’t, thank goodness. Time to start using the counter or a friend to hold your hand band while pulling your hair up.

Beware when you are traveling to China or buying from Chinese stores, just try to be careful

when you are buying hair bands down the road who knows what it is made from??

These Hairbands were made from used condoms and threads. That was so disgusting, I would not want anyone to use them!!

.

.

.

BEIJING (AFP) - Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday

In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdongprovince , China Daily newspaper said.

'These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well .. threatening the health of local people,' it said.

Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.

'People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,' the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying. A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just 25 s
en (three cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said.

A government official was quoted as saying recycling condoms was illegal.

In response, it launched a public relations blitz this summer aimed at playing up efforts to strengthen monitoring systems.

Is this story true? YES! I received this email from Snopes.com a urban legend fact checking resource website. And the email listed resources at the bottom of the email. So tell all your friends about these hand bands. I say forget the hand bands and use all the cute jeweled hair clips instead!

Fish Oil and Skin

Do you think eating certain types of food affect your skin?

Yes, eating does help your skin to look its’ best! Chocolate has been proven a myth to cause acne though, thank goodness, because I am a chocolateholic. See my other post about chocolate.

Salmon with all of its’ fish oil is suppose to be really good for skin and help heal problem skin too. Do you take fish oil or eat salmon at least once a week? I try to do both. Have I noticed any difference in my skin? Nada, but I did just start the fish oil pills about 6 months ago. That seems like a long time to me though. And do you ever get the little fish tasting burps after taking the pills? I know it’s gross. Perhaps I will just stick to eating more fish. I will research fish oil more and let you know. There are some benefits that cannot be seen.

Sea you next time!

Face Primers

Makeup primers for the whole face are suppose to make your makeup last longer and make your foundation more even. I have tried primers for my whole face and they do not have any affect on me. Of course I do have oily skin, so perhaps that is why I don’t notice anything. Have you noticed an affect from primers? Everybody’s skin is different and many primers are different.

I have not found the right primer for me and I think I have given up looking for one. Sunscreen is enough moisturizer for me. I do not need anything extra that may cause more breakouts. Less really is more sometimes.

Aquaphor Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Target

Walgreens has come out with their brand of Aquaphor! It comes in a big 3 ounce tube and cost $6. I just love Aquaphor, it is the best lip moisturizer. I use it every night before I go to bed and it keeps my lips moisturized the whole night. And this is coming from a chapstick addict.

CVS and Rite Aid also carry their own brand of Aquaphor as well. Target does not have their own brand yet, hopefully one day. Although I think since Target’s prices are so great that the regular Aquaphor is worth it to buy there. It doesn’t matter where you buy it, when it comes to the ingredients, they are all the same.

Make sure to use an spf lipstick during the day. Or use an spf chapstick under your lipstick to keep your lips protected from the sun. It is pretty much impossible to find a stable chemical spf chapstick, but if you are a chapstick addict and constantly reapply then that should be fine.
