Life Changes Affect your Skin

What we put in our bodies affect our over-all well being. And it does affect our skin too. I am not talking about all those myths, that if you eat chocolate and French fries then you will get acne. I am saying, eating healthy can help you to have better skin, while eating junk food all the time can have a negative affect on your skin and over-all well being.

The vitamins or drugs that we ingest can affect our bodies and skin too. I believe in taking vitamins and drugs, legal ones that is. Unfortunately, many people start taking illegal drugs and that can not only mess up your skin with premature aging, but it can seriously mess up your life. Addictions to any drug even prescription drugs, like a vicodin addiction can be extremely hard to conquer.

Fortunately, there are great treatment facilities, like Promises to go and change your life around. Many celebrities and all types of people go. I think it is interesting that you hear more and more about celebrities going to rehabs, perhaps it was just not mention in the past as much. Or they didn’t have such nice places to go to get help. These places have yoga classes and are very beautiful… It is nice to know that there are always places to go to heal your body, life, and skin. There is always a time to start fresh each and every second.

Wal-Mart's Brand of Vaseline's Coco Butter Lotion

Wal-Mart now has their Equate brand of Coco Butter lotion that is basically the same as Vaseline’s Cocoa Butter! I was excited to see it! Target already has already their brand, but now Wal-Mart carries it too.

Vaseline is the second ingredient on the ingredient list. Vaseline is one of the most moisturizing ingredients, so this is great! All that matters is ingredients, so if you can find a great deal like this and it works for your skin, then do not pass it up! Price does not mean much, it is up to the ingredients and you.

Have silky smooth skin and a great day today!

Facial Cleansing Mineral Oil!

Facial cleansing oil. Oil dissolves oil. Using oil to get rid of makeup, dirt, oil, and grime every night works like a charm.

I have talk about how to use facial oils in a previous post here.

Replacing your makeup remover with an oil is very gentle on the skin without irritation, depending on the oil you use and as always your mileage may very (everybody’s skin is different). Apply oil to your skin and remove your makeup and eye makeup without worry of stinging! Facial oils work really well to remove those stubborn water resistant sunscreens too. You may think that a sunscreen is causing you to breakout, but really you may not be removing all traces of it properly.

This is my update from the previous oil post. I really like using the mineral oil! No breakouts and no irritation has occurred and it is way cheaper than the jojoba oil! The baby oil With fragrance has not cause a problem for me either, but beware fragrance can cause irritation, especially for people with sensitive skin.

There is no concern to be worried about using mineral oil on your face. There is a reason it is used in many facial moisturizer including high end brands, La Mer. Mineral oil is one of the least irritating oils, it is non-cosmogenic.

Make sure to use your regular gentle foaming cleanser afterwards to get all the oil off. Or some people just like using a warm wet washcloth to gently remove the oil. It is up to you.

Hope you facial cleansing routine is complete with or without a drop of oil.

Beauty Skincare Drinks

Nestle has come out with a beauty drink to help you look beautiful from within! “The product itself is formulated with vitamins, phtyo-nutrients, botanical and fruit extracts that are combined to fight the signs of aging from the inside"(cosmeticdesign.com).

The drink is called Glowelle and I guess it is suppose to make you skin have that healthy glow. Glowelle will hit Neiman Marcus stores in about 2 weeks. Does it really work? I am not so sure.

Have you heard of Lumae another beauty drink with vitamins and green tea? It was launched in 2008 by L’Oreal and Coca Cola. And then there is the famous Borba. The Beauty Brains say that these drinks are just hype.

I check out Glowelle.com and looked at the ingredients and the scientific research that they listed on their website. First of all their research consists of scientists that talk about the specific vitamins that Glowelle uses not the actual drink and whether or not Glowelle uses enough supplements to have an efficient affect on your skin. Plus these drinks are labeled as a dietary supplement and not as a cosmetic drug under the FDA. Check out the ingredients on their site.

It looks like you could get the same or better benefits from just drinking fresh pomegranate juice. There does not seem to be a reason right now to make a specific drink that is marketed for beauty in the cosmetic aisle.

I do think Nestle had a great idea to put their drink in the cosmetic aisle, because that is where all the beauty junkies shop and they are more likely to try it there, rather than a grocery store aisle. I also like the fact that there are more and more beauty innovations coming out everyday! I am just not so sure the Glowelle drink floats my boat.

Fish OIl Omega-3 and Beauty Within

Fish oil is known to help cardiovascular problems. And Omega-3 helps people with eczema and psoriasis. Omega-3 also benefit’s the memory and could help people from developing Alzheimer’s. Scientists say fish oil is anti-inflammatory and good for acne too.

It seems to me that Omega-3 is known more to protect your overall health, but mostly on the inside. Taking an Omega-3 pill or upping my intake of salmon, halibut, almonds, walnuts, and soy sound like a good idea for my memory.

Make sure your Omega-3 pills have more DHA than EPA. DHA has been proven recently to be better for your memory than EPA. Check for a DHA of at least 220mg. Research is also showing that DHA is better than EPA for cardiovascular as well. Look for Omega-3 pills that say pharmaceutical grade, these are concentrated oils. Omega-3 fish oil pills should be in ester form not triglycride, because ester is more easily absorbed by the body. Make sure your fish oil is molecularly distilled so that all the contaminants are removed.

Also it is recommended right now to NOT take more than 1,000mg of fish oil per day. And do not exceed more than 2g of DHA and EPA per day in supplements or 3g in supplements and food combined.

Fish Oil and Skin

Do you think eating certain types of food affect your skin?

Yes, eating does help your skin to look its’ best! Chocolate has been proven a myth to cause acne though, thank goodness, because I am a chocolateholic. See my other post about chocolate.

Salmon with all of its’ fish oil is suppose to be really good for skin and help heal problem skin too. Do you take fish oil or eat salmon at least once a week? I try to do both. Have I noticed any difference in my skin? Nada, but I did just start the fish oil pills about 6 months ago. That seems like a long time to me though. And do you ever get the little fish tasting burps after taking the pills? I know it’s gross. Perhaps I will just stick to eating more fish. I will research fish oil more and let you know. There are some benefits that cannot be seen.

Sea you next time!

Antioxidants, Free Radicals, and Anti-aging

Free radicals affect the skin and can causing aging. Free radicals come from the sun, stress, pollution, and the everyday elements around you.

Fighting free radicals can be done through antioxidants!

I have talked about applying topical antioxidants in a post about vitamin C in the past. Eating your antioxidant can greatly benefit your skin, perhaps even more than topically, but most skin needs help from the outside as well. Helping your skin from the inside does work though. The degree that it helps varies from person to person, but a healthy diet is important for your over all well being and your skin.

Berries contain some of the most antioxidants. Summertime is the perfect time to eat up all those wonderful fresh berries. Blueberries, grapes, cherries, pomegranates, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and even raisins all have an excellent amount of antioxidants. Raisins have as much antioxidants as glass of white wine, but not red.

Go ahead and have that red glass of wine at dinner, not only is it good for your heart, but it is full of antioxidants for your skin! We all know that green tea is an also an excellent source of antioxidants and one should enjoy several glasses a day! I have trouble drinking more than one glass of green tea and only during wintertime. I just love the taste of coffee. Well, coffee can be good for the skin too, because it has cancer fighting elements, helps the liver, and it also has antioxidants.

Only drink one cup of coffee a day though, too much and it can have negative affects. When drinking caffeine, remember to have a cup of water for every caffeine cup to stay hydrated!

Have a great night everybody! Enjoy some super dark chocolate for dessert, a small square a night can provide more antioxidants as well! Plus it is an excuse to have dessert every night!

Aging Gracefully - It's Smile Time! Anti Aging Products Review

This is my final post of the anti aging products batch of posts. Retinoids really do help prevent wrinkles from forming. They can give you youthful, supple, and smooth skin. There are a few things you should know when you using retinoids. Read on to find out if your skincare routine is right for you and your retinoid anti aging treatments.

When using Retinoid products, you should put them on twenty minutes after you wash your face. This gives time for your skin’s pH to come back down after washing. Or if you have a cleanser and toner with the correct pH, then that will balance your skin, so you can put on the retinoid right away. If not, then it is important to wait, because the least irritation to your skin the better.

I will talk more the importance of products with proper pH balance.

Now if you have dry skin you can use an moisturizer to rectify the dryness that retinoids may cause. Or your skin may just need the extra moisture. Watch your skin and give it what it needs. However, after you put on the retinoid you should wait twenty minutes or as long as you can before you put on moisturizer.
If the moisturizer is put on right after, then it will interfere with the retinol and it’s effectiveness.

For oily skin you really do not need a moisturizer, a facial sunscreen in the morning is enough! You have to wear a sunscreen when using Retinal anti aging skincare products, they make the skin more photosensitive to the sun. Okay, I know enough with the sunscreen, but that is why I said to find the right sunscreen and then bring the retinoids on.

Avene retinaldehyde anti aging facial products are not just great for anti-aging, they really helped clear up my acne too! I mean I had terrible hormonal cysts all along my chin that would not go away for years! Avene's Retinaldehyde cleared it up so fast. And if I do get a blemish on my chin now it is a pimple, not a cyst and it will go away in a couple of days instead of a week, which is how long cysts/pimples took before.
So if you have acne then give the Avene retinaldehyde products for anti aging a shot! They might work for you too and then you get a mult-purpose product, which will prevent wrinkles and acne.

I mean I have tried almost every acne treatment out there and this one finally works. Plus, they say to start using an anti wrinkle cream in your late twenties or early thirties. They say it is easier to prevent wrinkles.

I hope you have enjoy all my past posts about retinoids, retinaldehyde, retin-A, retinol, retinal, or vitamin A anti aging wrinkle products. Whatever you want to call it, Vitamin A gives you clear, smooth, supple skin. Smooth out fine lines and prevent new ones from forming. Taking care of your skin is very important to aging gracefully. And learning what works for your skin, by reading and testing, is the right way to do it! Now go smile and laugh a lot today, that is the real key to staying young, besides all these wonderful anti aging products

The Right Cleansers with your Retinoid Anti Aging Products!

Are you ready for another post about anti aging products? Have you started using a retinoid product yet?  How is it going? Are you taking it slowly, maybe applying it every other day? Well, you skin may be getting dry now, and this does mean it is working. Read on to find out how to update your anti aging skincare routine.

Now if you dry skin or are flaking a lot, the first thing you should do is check your facial cleanser. Detergents, such as sulfates, are harsh on your skin. By just changing your cleanser, the flakes can decrease dramatically. I was using Purpose cleanser, because I heard it was good, but then I looked at the ingredients:

(from www.drugstore.com)
Purpose Gentle Cleanser:
Water, PEG 80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG 150 Distearate, Sodium Lauroampho PG Acetate Phosphate, Fragrance, Quaternium 15, Tetrasodium EDTA

Yes, there aren't too many ingredients, which is a good thing. There is the ingredient Sorbitan Laurate, which is a mild sulfate, but Sodium Laureth Sulfate is not quite as mild. And it's at the top of the list!
Although, it is more mild than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

When looking for cleansers look for the "th" at the end of Laureth, the "ly" is strong.

Detergents make the cleanser foam. Many people like the foam, because they think it cleans better and it feels good. I thought so! But really nope, the less foam the better. There are still plenty of other cleaning agents in facial soap. You don't need foam, consumers just like it.

Now the Purpose facial cleanser did remove all of my makeup exceptionally well, but cleansers are not really suppose to do that. That's what makeup removers or oils are for. The cleanser just gets the lasts traces of film and dirt off.

I really like the Olay Foaming face wash for Senstive Skin. Now I know it has foaming right in the name, but the sulfate is a gentle one and it's way in the middle of the list instead of at the top. Plus, the foaming agent is not very foamy either.

Olay Foaming Face Wash:
Water, Glycerin, Sodium Myristoyl Sarcosinate, PEG 120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, Glycol Distearate, PEG 150 Pentaerythritol Tetrastearate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Polyquaternium 10, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Cocamide MEA, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA,
Laureth 9

After I started using the Olay cleanser the flakes stopped for me! It is so gentle. Plus, it is nice to use a gentle cleanser in the morning. Before, I was using the Purpose in the morning, with its' strong makeup removing power. I didn't even think about it. But we don't need that strong of cleanser in the morning when we aren't wearing makeup. Plus, acne prone skin really does not need all those medicated cleansers. They can be too harsh on sensitive skin. They really don't work very well either, because most of it washes down the drain. It is not on your skin long enough to do that much. You better off using an acne treatment. By the way, make sure to massage the cleanser into you skin for about a minute before rinsing.

If you don't have acne prone skin, switching up your cleanser may help with your dry and flaky skin as well. A gentle cleanser is important when using a strong anti aging treatment. Also, skin changes as we age and so you may need to switch to something more creamy.

I hope my facial soap reviews help you find a good cleanser. If not, then read some beauty reviews and keep testing until you find one great for you! Anti aging treatments and acne treatments are enough treatments for you skin. Simplifying the rest of your routine with gentle products will help your skin. Pay attention to how your skin reacts and treat it gently. Now, stay tuned for yet another anti aging products post!

Happy Easter Everyone! Let Chocolate Help Your Skin!

I hope you are spending time with love ones right now! And eating a lot of chocolate!

By the way, don't believe in the
chocolate myth!

Chocolate does not cause acne, there's no scientific proof!
Acne is caused by hormones, heredity, oil glands, bacteria, excessive washing, and some medications.

Poor hygiene, stress and unhealthy diet can aggravate acne but not cause it!
Chocolate is actually a great source of antioxidants! Well, the really Dark Chocolate. The darker the better, try to find the 85% cocoa. Antioxidants are very good for the body and the skin! (I will get more into antioxidants later and the best topical one for your face)

Dark Chocolate contains flavonoids, which are like those in tea, red wine, fruits, and vegetables. These flavonoids can help the skin be more moist, less scaly and red. This is because flavonoids actually absorb UV light! Dark chocolate is also good for the heart!

  • A small 1.6 ounce of dark chocolate a day is recommended! :)

So enjoy that Chocolate bunny!

The Secret to Picking Out the Right Sunscreen!

Sunscreen ingredients! It’s the most important part of buying sunscreen! Please read them! Your skin will thank you! And once you figure it out, it will only take you a second!

Now there are Chemical and Physical sunscreens. You have to pick the one that your skin likes the best! Generally the Chemical sunscreens do have higher UVA protection! Remember UVA 8 is good and 19 is great! Well Physical sunscreens only go up to about 8.

On with the fun part.

Many Chemical sunscreens contain:
Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octisalate, Octocrylene, and Oxybenzone.
Now if the sunscreen contains Avobenzone, make sure that it does NOT contain Octinoxate! It will
destablize the suncreen causing it to degrade faster in the sunlight, meaning less protection for your skin! Think of it like octiNOxate!

Many Physical sunscreens contain:
Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide

Make sure that they have both ingredients!

Also look for high percentages of these active ingredients. The higher they are and the certain combination of the ingredients means a higher UVA protection number!

So a chemical sunscreen with Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 13%, Octisalates 5%, Octocrylene 2%, Oxybenzone 4% has a very good UVA protection of around 11-13. (by the way it’s Coppertone Water Babies spf 50)

So just look for other sunscreens with about these percentages in it and you got yourself a great sunscreen!

There’s also a website that will calculate all the ingredients in any sunscreen and give a estimation of the UVA number! It is usually off by a number or two, but that's better than nothing!

https://www.ciba.com/ind-pc-uv-sss.htm

Go ahead check it out!

Oh, also once a sunscreen has been opened it will only last for about a year! So all those sunscreens you had in your cabinet since last summer, toss them!

(Money saving tip: Check out your Big Lots store, they have great deals ($2.50 for Ocean Potions and $3.50 for Hawaiian Tropics Baby Faces SPF50) on sunscreens right now!)
