Anti Wrinkle Cream and Dad

Shopping, shopping, and more shopping. Did you make sure to pick up all the skincare essentials for everybody on your list? Have you gotten all of your Christmas shopping done yet? What about your Dad? Is he worried about aging at all? Does he want to look his best? I have just about bought something for everybody. Of course my Dad’s birthday is the day after Christmas so I will have to pick something extra up for him next week and I am thinking about getting him the best anti wrinkle cream.

Men need skincare products too. Sunscreen is the number one anti-aging product to buy, then retinoids. Hopefully, you can get your dad to use at least the sunscreen. Make sure it is a good one that protects against UVA and UVB rays. The sun's rays are very harsh and a huge cause of wrinkles. So give your Dad the best anti aging wrinkle cream ever, sunscreen. Yes, start thinking of sunscreen as an anti aging cream, because really is the best.

Pregnant, Retinoids, Babies, and Sunscreen

I just wanted to post a quick reminder to NOT use retinoids while you are pregnant! I am pretty sure it says on the directions or retinoid boxes, but sometimes people do not read the directions.

Always consult your doctor about your skincare routine when you become pregnant. Consult your doctor with all the products you use and anything new you want to try.

Also consult your doctor about when to start sunscreen protection for your baby. Doctors have said in the past to NOT use sunscreen on babies under 6 months. And now I have recently read on the American Academy of Pediatrics that you can put sunscreen on infants under 6 months, but only on the face and back of hands. Consult with your doctor and go with your instinct.

After 6 months definitely protect your baby, by using sunscreen. The American Academy of Dermatology states, “It is estimated that we get about 80 percent of our total lifetime sun exposure in the first 18 years of life. Therefore, sun prevention in childhood is very important to prevent skin cancer later in life."

Anti-aging Skincare Products Marketing Claims

Anti-aging skincare products make all kinds of claims. New skincare products come out everyday. And it is getting more scientific too. There was a NY Times about the marketing of anti-aging products. Some of the terms are “cellular level cleansing” and Aquacurrent science.

If the terms and labels sounds scientific and unique then consumers will think that it works. There were scientists in the article that stated that any cleanser or even a wash cloth could be labeled cellular level cleansing, because they can exfoliate and regenerate your skin cells.

The cosmetic chemist from one of my favorite beauty blogs was also quoted in the article! I am so happy for The Beauty Brains, it is big time to be mentioned in an article like that! Anyway Left Brain said, “If you are trying to decide between a 16-ounce bottle of Suave lotion and a one-ounce $300 jar of Perricone, if it doesn’t have sciency-sounding words in there, people are going to feel a little foolish at plopping down that money.”

The article also went on to mention stem cells research and cosmetics. Two scientists of course disagreed if stem cells in skincare products really work or not.

Also the FDA "...defines cosmetics as topical products that alter neither the structure nor function of the skin. Cosmetic manufacturers are responsible for their own marketing claims."

In the end of the article, scientists said what does work. "A study published earlier this year by researchers at the University of Michigan reported that three treatments — topical retinoic acid, carbon dioxide lasers and injections of cross-linked hyaluronic acid — have been proven to help repair the internal scaffolding of aging skin."

Retinoids, surgery, and the professional facials are what works right now, just like I have been saying!

Beware of all the beauty companies marketing hype and stick to what works!

Be Spot Off with the Right Ingrediants for Sun Spots!

Sunspots, pigmentation, brown spots, freckles, skin discoloration. They are all the same thing, which are often caused by the sun. Acne can leave pigmentation marks too.

Lasers can be effective and the fastest, but very expensive! And often the lighter spots take many treatments to fade away and may not even go away! The darker the spot the easier it is for the laser to remove it. Research a lot and find a good doctor, because I do not know much about lasers. If you beautiful Damsels out there really want to get laser surgery, then let me know and I'll help you research.

I would try topical treatments first and if you do not get the desired affect then you can try the lasers.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids work well in fading spots, but can take awhile, depending on the serverity of your spots. There are even strong AHA peels that you can buy to do at home that come in the 40% range! You should work your way up when using these high peels and be careful, make sure to follow the directions to a "T." Spas and doctors will also perform these high peels as well. Retinoids also help in fading spots, but they take even longer, a couple of years. Stable Vitamin C serums may help fade sun spots, but they too take awhile. (I will get more into Vitamin C soon)

Hydroquinone cream is one of the most commonly skin bleaching ingredients used in the U.S.

Tomorrow I will post all about Hydroquinone cream and it's mixed reviews in the U.S., across the world, and of course what I think!:)

The Right Cleansers with your Retinoid Anti Aging Products!

Are you ready for another post about anti aging products? Have you started using a retinoid product yet?  How is it going? Are you taking it slowly, maybe applying it every other day? Well, you skin may be getting dry now, and this does mean it is working. Read on to find out how to update your anti aging skincare routine.

Now if you dry skin or are flaking a lot, the first thing you should do is check your facial cleanser. Detergents, such as sulfates, are harsh on your skin. By just changing your cleanser, the flakes can decrease dramatically. I was using Purpose cleanser, because I heard it was good, but then I looked at the ingredients:

(from www.drugstore.com)
Purpose Gentle Cleanser:
Water, PEG 80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG 150 Distearate, Sodium Lauroampho PG Acetate Phosphate, Fragrance, Quaternium 15, Tetrasodium EDTA

Yes, there aren't too many ingredients, which is a good thing. There is the ingredient Sorbitan Laurate, which is a mild sulfate, but Sodium Laureth Sulfate is not quite as mild. And it's at the top of the list!
Although, it is more mild than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

When looking for cleansers look for the "th" at the end of Laureth, the "ly" is strong.

Detergents make the cleanser foam. Many people like the foam, because they think it cleans better and it feels good. I thought so! But really nope, the less foam the better. There are still plenty of other cleaning agents in facial soap. You don't need foam, consumers just like it.

Now the Purpose facial cleanser did remove all of my makeup exceptionally well, but cleansers are not really suppose to do that. That's what makeup removers or oils are for. The cleanser just gets the lasts traces of film and dirt off.

I really like the Olay Foaming face wash for Senstive Skin. Now I know it has foaming right in the name, but the sulfate is a gentle one and it's way in the middle of the list instead of at the top. Plus, the foaming agent is not very foamy either.

Olay Foaming Face Wash:
Water, Glycerin, Sodium Myristoyl Sarcosinate, PEG 120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, Glycol Distearate, PEG 150 Pentaerythritol Tetrastearate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Polyquaternium 10, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Cocamide MEA, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA,
Laureth 9

After I started using the Olay cleanser the flakes stopped for me! It is so gentle. Plus, it is nice to use a gentle cleanser in the morning. Before, I was using the Purpose in the morning, with its' strong makeup removing power. I didn't even think about it. But we don't need that strong of cleanser in the morning when we aren't wearing makeup. Plus, acne prone skin really does not need all those medicated cleansers. They can be too harsh on sensitive skin. They really don't work very well either, because most of it washes down the drain. It is not on your skin long enough to do that much. You better off using an acne treatment. By the way, make sure to massage the cleanser into you skin for about a minute before rinsing.

If you don't have acne prone skin, switching up your cleanser may help with your dry and flaky skin as well. A gentle cleanser is important when using a strong anti aging treatment. Also, skin changes as we age and so you may need to switch to something more creamy.

I hope my facial soap reviews help you find a good cleanser. If not, then read some beauty reviews and keep testing until you find one great for you! Anti aging treatments and acne treatments are enough treatments for you skin. Simplifying the rest of your routine with gentle products will help your skin. Pay attention to how your skin reacts and treat it gently. Now, stay tuned for yet another anti aging products post!

Aging Gracefully - Secrets Still Continued - Anti Aging Products

Time for more talk about Avene's anti aging products! The best part is Avene products are pretty reasonably priced, well compared to the expensive products in department stores, that may not even work! Ystheal facial lotion is only $32 and can be found at many CVS drug stores! Check it out on online to see if your local store carries it, not all do, or you can buy it right online. If you joined the CVS club you will get coupons and cash back. They also have a $4 off of $20 coupon a lot too! Of, course you should check out Amazon as well.

Now $32 really is a great deal! One bottle lasts for about 6 months! All you need is a pea-size drop for your whole face. And I mean pea-size. This stuff is strong.

Also you must start out slowly. Use it three times a week and then move up to four times a week, then every other day and then every day, if your skin can handle it. Retinaldehyde a form of Vitamin A will make your skin purge (causing little pimples). And your skin may become dry and flaky for the first couple weeks, this means the anti aging skincare product is working though. The Retinaldehyde is turning over your skin's dead cells. Isn’t it great to know that the anti aging product is working and is strong enough to do something!? So if you started applying it everyday right off, your skin will really flake and get irritated, the skin adjusts gradually to Retinoids. Make sure to watch your skin, and treat it accordingly.

Also if your skin never stops flaking, then Retinaldehyde anti aging beauty products may be too strong for your skin. Then you can move down to retinol and work your way up or try different anti aging facial products out there like antioxidants (more on these soon). Some good retinol products are from the Neutrogena and Roc skincare lines. I will post even more about Retinoid anti aging products in my next post as well, so stay tuned!

Aging Gracefully - Secrets Continued - Anti Aging Products

Retinoids anti aging products are some of the best wrinkle fighting products out there! There are actually different names for Retinoids, which can tell you their level of potency. First of all there’s retinol which is what’s in most of the over the counter anti aging facial products now.

And really retinol is not strong enough to do anything!

Retin-A is the strongest retinoid that you can buy and you have to have a prescription.

Retinaldehyde is the level that Avene produces and again it is the strongest you can buy without a prescription! In the U.S. you can buy two different types or strengths of Avene’s Retinaldehyde anti aging skincare products. Ystheal + Emulsion lotion for normal to combo skin. They do not have one out yet for oily skin, but this is the one that works for my very oily acne prone skin! There is also an Ystheal cream and Eluage Retinaldehyde cream for dry skin. The Eluage has Hyaluronic Acid in it as well, so it enhances the Retinaldehyde! Therefore, the Eluage is the more potent anti aging wrinkle cream. To go with the Eluage Retinaldehyde cream, is a Eluage firming gel, that can be applied to only the deep lines and wrinkles and not the entire face.

As a beginner or a women in the mid twenties, I would start off with Ystheal, it’s more gentle. Starting off with the Eluage can lead to irritation. If you wish, after a few years you can move up to the Eluage, but I would hold off until your forties/fifties or get a prescription depending on your budget and desire. (Remember Retinoids can NOT be used while pregnant.)

I have heard it really is best to start with anti aging beauty products in your twenties or thirties.
Preventing is easier than erasing. So you want to prevent the aging for as long as possible.

(I will talk more about Avene's anti aging products and how to apply it properly in my next post!)
